So I gotta be honest here. I’ve been dodging requests from Summer for about 2 years now to go to an indoor waterpark. Yup I was a mean mom and kept saying no for very selfish reasons. Here I was thinking they are crowded, not clean and I’m going to be bored out of my mind because let’s face it — this mama isn’t going on any water slides. BUT that all changed when we heard the newly Kartrite Resort opened not far from our house. My Kartrite Resort Review will answer all your burning questions about this new resort and for the mama on the fence about waterparks — this review might even have you on board with booking your next family getaway.

LOCATION
The Kartrite Resort is located in Monticello, NY which is part of the Catskills region. It’s about 90 minutes outside of NYC and for my Monmouth County followers it took us just shy of 2 hours to get there.
BASIC INFO ABOUT THE KARTRITE RESORT
This brand new resort just opened it’s door in April 2019. Above all, it holds NY’s largest indoor waterpark and has plenty of activities for kids and adults.
From modern finishes, to fine dining to whimsical treats there really is something for everyone here. This isn’t just a resort with a waterpark. It’s a getaway that envelopes family bonding, memorable activities and a dose of luxury.
THE ROOMS
Let me just say that we were blown away by the suites at The Kartrite. I wasn’t expecting a family resort to have such gorgeous rooms but I was wrong. Chic, modern finishings in all 324 rooms make you feel like you are at a luxury hotel. With 3 types of rooms to choose from you can be sure to have plenty of room for your family of 2, 3, 4 or more or less.
Junior Suite Double Queen: This room has 2 queen beds and 1 sleeper sofa and is perfect for a smaller family and is the most economical choice.
The King Suite: This room sleeps up to 4 guests with a king bed and 1 sleeper sofa. The perfect room for a couple traveling alone or those lucky families that can convince the Grandparents to come travel along.
Family King Bunk Suite: This is the room that we stayed in and all I can is WOW. Tons and tons of room in this suite. Sleeps up to 8 people with 2 separate bedrooms. Our room had a king size bed and the guest room has either 2 queen beds or 2 bunk beds along with a sleeper sofa. Our room also had 2 full size bathrooms which was a nice added bonus to not all have to squeeze into 1 bathroom.
Balconies and patios are available for an additional charge. We had a balcony and loved the woodsy view with plenty of seating space to sip coffee in the morning. Our room also had a refrigerator, microwave, Keurig coffee maker and more closet and dresser space then we knew what to do with. In addition, each of our bedrooms and sitting area had huge flat screen TVs.
INDOOR WATERPARK
Ok let’s get right to it. The real reason you are booking your family getaway to The Kartrite is for the indoor waterpark. All guests staying at The Kartrite receive complimentary admission into the waterpark. However, 1 day splash passes are available for purchase by non hotel guests.
No need to worry about the weather when venturing off to the waterpark. It’s always 84 degrees, everyday all day. From massive slides, a lazy river, the Flowrider that makes you feel like you are surfing, the challenging “gator crossing” to walk over to water basketball and the puddle ducks area for the little ones there really is a ton to enjoy and splash around in.
Summer was about an inch too short for the larger slides but Erik was back and forth all day on the slides and in his glory. She was fine tough. 7 hours of her going down slides she was tall enough for, walking across the gator crossing and cruising the lazy river kept her busy for hours.
CABANA RENTAL
As for me? My poolside cabana gave me all the amenities I needed to get work done, and still watch my squad splash around with smiles on their faces. You can rent the cabanas by the day and they come with a fridge stocked with water, juice, soda and fruit. A flat screen TV, ceiling fan, table and sofas are also inside the cabana. These are great options for families with babies that may need a nap or if you need to work remotely like me.
Can’t spring for a cabana? No worries. There are plenty of lounge chairs situated throughout the waterpark and tables and chairs to eat lunch. Towels are complimentary but lockers can be rented for the day to keep your personal belongings.
I also want to mention the impressive lifeguards. There were a ton of lifeguards and they were so attentive. Also, there is no heavy chlorine smell at the waterpark. The water is super clean and did not smell of those heavy chemicals you often find at waterparks.
OTHER ADVENTURES
The fun doesn’t stop at the waterpark. The Kartrite offers a ton of additional activities for the entire family. The Kartrite Resort has a huge arcade, a bowling alley, a rope course and zipline, rock climbing wall, an XD (similar to 3D) theater and laser tag. You can honestly spend a full day taking advantage of all these activities which is exactly what we did.
The Kartrite Resort also has a daily itinerary of activities the kids can sign up for such as family movie night, donut decorating, scavenger hunts, crafts and more.
If you find yourself wanting to break away from the family fun The Kartrite Resort has a fitness center with weights and cardio machines that I took advantage of in the morning along with a spa in the event that maybe your hubby will reward you with a massage or facial. #myhubbydidnotspring
DINING
I always feel like dining can make or break a vacation and the dining at The Kartrite only added to our experience. We didn’t eat at every restaurant at the resort but there were a ton of options.
We ate dinner at Bixby’s Derby which is their most formal restaurant. The service and food were both amazing with beautiful views of the property.
For breakfast we ate at The Highline which was more like a coffee shop. Quick breakfast sandwiches, bagels and coffee. It was also our place for that afternoon cup of coffee and pastry for Summer.
Eat. Eat. Eat offers a buffet option. Surfside Grille is the perfect lunch option while at the waterpark and Harvey’s Wallbanger is the all American destination for a casual burger and drink.
We loved getting delicious gelato from Pop’s Sweet Shoppe for dessert. They also offered cupcakes, candy and pastries.
But no Kartrite stay is complete without roasting smores. You can purchase a smores kit at the front desk and then sit outside by one of the fire pits and roast away. Something about being in the mountains, outside with my little family roasting marshmallows by the fire is one of my favorite memories about our stay at The Kartrite.

So I had fun. There I said it. I may have tried to dodge going to a waterpark the last 2 years but I’m so glad I caved and said yes. The Kartrite exceeded my expectations and more. From the stellar service, to the new topnotch amenities to the endless activities for kids and adults there was so much to enjoy.
Sometimes we gotta just step out of the box, be a kid again and let go. I did just that on our 2 night getaway to The Kartrite Resort. It was more than just a trip to a waterpark. From the scenic drive, to those laughs over roasting smores, to running around and playing laser tag like I was 18 again — it was all so worth it. We made memories we will never forget. Thank you Kartrite for giving my family the space it needed for some exploration, relaxation and pure joy. We will be back!
