So now that it’s officially summer I thought it would be a good time to do my summer capsule. I had a follower ask me what my essentials are for every season and I thought that would be a really useful blog topic to do once per season. I’ve spent the last 8 weeks slowly introducing you to the trends for the upcoming season so now I’ll make it easy for you and tell you my 15 must have items to create your summer capsule for 2019.
SHOP MY SUMMER CAPSULE:
A capsule is a roundup of must have items that are mostly basics that you can mix and match all season long. Staying true to HOLB style where I mix classic and trending pieces I have added in some trending accessories that are all very affordable but very trending. Your capsule should be very wearable and mixable fashion pieces but still always with a little on trend mixed in. After I run through these pieces I created 2 boards with outfit ideas mixing and matching everything.
1 | DENIM JACKET – This summer capsule piece can be worn all year for sure, but this bargain denim is probably my favorite one in my closet.
2 | MAXI DRESS – You absolutely need a maxi dress in your summer capsule. Wear these dressed up or down. Add the denim jacket over, a blazer or cardi for the office, or tie up #4 over it to change the look. More in this blog post.
3 | DRESSY CAMI – A cami is a must for all seasons but especially summer. You can wear these with denim for an easy date night look, wear them to the office with a blazer or cardi, or toss on with shorts.
4 | SUMMER SWEATER/TUNIC/BUTTON DOWN – Absolutely a must in the summer. This top is perfect for cool summer nights worn with jeans or shorts. I also love this one as a beach cover up too. You can wear these tied, front tucked or worn loose. The lightweight cotton on this top especially is amazing for summer. More in this blog post.
5 | NEUTRAL ESPADRILLE – You all know how much I love my shoes around here and I show you A LOT of them, but if you only add 2 shoes to your summer capsule make sure 1 pair is a neutral espadrille. Soft pink, white, cognac or beige will match pretty much anything.
6 | SLIDE SANDAL – The other shoe to add to your summer capsule? A simple slide sandal.
7 | DENIM SHORTS – Always a staple for summer. You got to have at least 1 pair of denim shorts. Love the fit on these. Size up at least 1 size.
8 | JUMPSUIT – This is a bit more of a trendy piece but for our summer capsule 2019 the jumpsuit is a must. Out of all the jumpsuits I’ve shown you this season I chose this one because it’s an easy one to dress up or down. I love it with slide sandals but you can easily wear heels or espadrilles with this one. See more here.
9 | KIMONO – Got to have at least 1 kimono in your closet. Hands down the easiest piece of clothing to style. Wear them with a basic tank, denim shorts and slides. Wear them as a beach cover up. Wear them to the office with jeans or slacks. The options are endless.
10 | BEACH COVERUP – So yes you can wear the kimono as a beach cover up but I chose this particular beach cover up (which you’ll see on my IG/FB this week) because it can be styled as a summer dress with a bralette or tank underneath. You can also wear it more tunic style over your denim shorts.
11 | WHITE DENIM – I love white denim all year but you have to add a pair to your summer capsule. This pair I love because it’s only distressed on the ankle which makes them office friendly if you roll them. The high waist/button fly is also very on trend.
12 | BASIC TANK – 100% you need at least 1 white and 1 black basic tank in your summer capsule. Wear them alone, tie them up or layer them under the kimono, white tunic top or denim jacket. I wear this particular top several times a week.
13 | PEARL BARRETTES – I just featured these in last week’s Amazon Haul. These next 3 items are more trendy but none will break the bank and all a must for staying on trend this summer.
14 | STATEMENT EARRING – Always a fan of the statement earring. So easy to add to any of these outfit options. I just picked these up and can’t wait to wear them.
15 | LAYERED GOLD NECKLACE – Shocker? If you are an HOLB lover then you all knew I was gonna feature this one. I have a ton of layered gold necklaces but all are affordable and the perfect accessory to your summer capsule.
