Doing something a little different today on the blog. My fitness post that I put out a few weeks ago did really well. Way better than I thought it would do! I told you I was so nervous to do that post because while I’m a fitness fanatic my workouts are pretty basic and not that exciting. In case you missed the post you can see my workout routine here. So I thought I would do another post focusing on creating healthy habits and how to make small changes to help you feel more balanced. The mind, body and soul connection is so important for feeling at peace with oneself and achieving a well balanced state of mind. I’m constantly working on this. It’s so easy to neglect one or all aspects of this philosophy. It takes work and a certain mindset to take care of our bodies and mental state.
In what ways might you be neglecting your mind, body and soul? Simple things such as not getting the body moving, not eating wholesome and nutritious foods, not taking time for the things you enjoy or perhaps you’re in such a race to hit a goal that you forget to enjoy the journey.
I’m no expert here and I’m a total work in progress, but I am going to share some ways that I incorporate healthy habits into my own life. Hopefully you’ll get some ideas to apply to your own day to day.
MIND
- Listen to music. For me, music is such an escape. I legit listen to music everyday. I’m not talking the radio. I created playlists on Spotify and Pandora that I listen to when am I’m at the office or when I’m home and blogging.
- Reading. I used to read more before blogging but I always enjoy the escape that a good novel or even just a magazine brings to me. If I get a pedicure I shut off from social media and read something for that hour.
- Try something new by breaking away from the familiar. I’m constantly trying to do this. Like most I try to continue doing what I know or am good at. But we can’t advance if we don’t challenge ourselves. So I try to challenge myself weekly by researching how to improve what I already am doing.
BODY
- Get active! So I work out 6 days a week because that’s just how I personally function, but even if you don’t go to the gym try to get active. Start walking. Take a yoga class. Try a spin class. Find something where you can sweat and where you also enjoy it.
- Eat MORE protein. I always make sure to have a protein with all 3 of my meals. I plan my meals out for the day in advance and that makes it so much easier to make healthy choices. Protein shakes and protein bars are great on the go. We also always have baked chicken ready in our fridge to add to salads. Protein keeps us full longer and feeds our muscles. Odds are you aren’t getting enough protein, but trying to plan out how you’ll add it will certainly help.
- Stretch. God your muscles will thank you! Everyday incorporate a bit of stretching into your routine. Our legs carry us through our day. Take time to loosen them up.
- This one is a tough one but I’ve gotten SO much better with it this year. DRINK MORE WATER! I used to brew ice tea because it was the only way I would drink, but then I started drinking fruit infused water and that got me drinking more water. I love this one for home and this one for on the go.
SOUL
- Take care of nurturing yourself. Pamper yourself more often. Make time for pedicures and hair appointments. Make those appointments ahead of time so you won’t put them off. Treat yourself to a massage. It’s so easy to put time for ourselves off because we are busy working and being moms. But I promise scheduling “me” time into your calendar will make you feel more productive as a mom and woman.
- Find time to escape. If it’s mindless shopping around Home Goods, going to meditate by the beach, attending a church service, whatever. Just find a way to disconnect from social media and the craziness that comes with home life and get away for an hour. Release and recharge!
- Be nice to others and take a genuine interest in their lives. I could do an entire blog post on this one! Honestly, not enough people take the time to call and say how are you? How’s your life? Compliment others and truly mean it. It shouldn’t be hard and it should feel good to honor something positive about someone.
- And piggy backing on #3, really take the time to understand where others are in their journey of life and respect it. All too many times we are judgmental and we criticize. We have different views or expectations. Embrace those things in others and except them for who they are. It does wonders for our soul when we can be content in the relationships in our lives. And if those relationships are only bringing you stress and negativity — it’s time to slowly let those relationships go and move away. Surround yourself with people that only bring the best out in you.
I hope you found some of my own healthy habits for the mind, body and soul helpful and can maybe adapt some of them into your own life. It’s constant work to feel balanced and good about ourselves but I know we are capable of it. What healthy habits do you try to incorporate into your own life? I would love to hear them in the comments.
PS…I’m clearly no yogi! My poses are terrible!

Loved this one! I struggle mostly with taking care of my mind. I rarely just unplug from everything and I’ve tried yoga recently to help with that! I agree with all of these things. Thanks for sharing!
Hi doll! It’s so hard to unplug and take care of our minds. We are all a work in progress though but I think if we can just be mindful of these things we can achieve such better balance. Thanks for reading! XO!
