It’s nothing new around here. You all know how much I love facial enhancements and aesthetics. We’ve talked fillers around here several times over this past year but we actually never talked anti-wrinkle injections. Today I am giving you my experience with Xeomin vs Botox. I am a firm believer in if it makes you feel good about how you look then go for it. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to enhance your overall appearance. There’s also nothing wrong if it’s not for you. Totally a personal choice. But for those interested in anti-wrinkle injections then scroll down for more.
Anti-wrinkle injections are totally different than fillers. You can read about when I had lip filler in this post and when I had cheek fillers done in this post. Fillers are more for volume loss and to plump. Anti-wrinkle injections, on the other hand, are injected into the facial muscles of moderate to severe frown lines and wrinkles to temporarily improve your appearance of those lines. The most popular of these injections are Botox and Xeomin.
For years, Botox has been what most women use for wrinkles and frown lines. I had Botox done for a good year and personally loved my results. I had treatments done every 3 months. It wasn’t until I started to see Dr. Gangi at Etoile Cosmetic Medicine Studio for my fillers that I was introduced to Xeomin as an alternative to Botox.
I am not a doctor or an expert on the topic but having had both Xeomin and Botox done I can say they do the exact same thing. I saw results with both Botox and Xeomin within 3-4 days. Both lasted just as long. I can go about 3-4 months before needing to have it done again. And both will require the same amount of units. However many units of Botox you get you would get the same amount of Xeomin. So why is Xeomin vs Botox actually better? Well for 1 it’s way less money.
WHAT DOES XEOMIN COST?
Botox generally runs about $17 per unit. Xeomin generally runs about $13 per unit. For my most recent Xeomin treatment I had 6 units in my forehead, 25 units in my 11 lines (between my eyebrows) and then 8 units on my left crows feet and 8 units on my right crows feet.
BREAKDOWN: 47 UNITS OF BOTOX: $799 VS 47 UNITS OF XEOMIN: $611
That’s a BIG SAVINGS. Something that does the exact same thing and has the same longevity and same effect but costs less is pretty much a no brainer to me. Xeomin is also uniquely purified, clinically proven and FDA-approved. You aren’t sacrificing quality whatsoever. Keep in mind that the cost above included my crow’s feet. Most women starting out with anti-wrinkle injections for the first time will often just do their forehead and 11’s making the cost even less. FOREHEAD AND 11’S
I have been having my forehead and 11’s done for about a year now. It’s important to know that Xeomin will wear off over time making repeat treatments important for keeping those lines away. I do notice with having treatments every 3 to 4 months the lines don’t come back as deep or as harsh as they used to prior to having treatment. Also the more your lines have set in the harder it can be to really diminish them. This brings me to my next point — getting Xeomin as early as your 30’s is so beneficial in preventing those lines from ever forming. I have 1 super stubborn line that even with repeat treatment never fully goes away.
You can see in my before and after though how much my movement when pushing up on my forehead has changed. There are no lines after having treatment. I look more refreshed, more awake and bonus — my makeup goes on so much smoother.
CROW’S FEET
I also opted to have my crow’s feet around my eyes treated with Xeomin. This was actually the first time I had these lines treated but love how much smoother the skin around my eyes looked after having treatment done.
If you are new to having anti-wrinkle injections done I’d absolutely suggest having your forehead and 11’s done as you’ll see the results so visibly. That area takes up such a large part of our face. However, adding in frown lines and crow’s feet really can help to enhance your face even more and adding a flawless, smooth finish.
DOES IT HURT?
Always the #1 question people have. No it doesn’t hurt. The entire process takes about 15 to 20 minutes and the pinch from the injections is so quick and not bad at all. Hurts less than getting a flu shot! Just as with fillers you can take arnica tablets a few days prior to going to reduce swelling and/or bruising. I’ve actually never had any swelling from having Xeomin or Botox done.
WHERE TO GO FOR XEOMIN
As with any procedure there are always risks involved which is why it is so important to go to an experienced doctor. Dr. Gangi from Etoile Cosmetic Medicine Studio makes sure to do a full assessment with you before having any type of treatment done in her office. She is also a firm believer in less is more. Dr. Gangi strives to just enhance your appearance rather than change it. You’ll walk away looking very natural and you will not have that plastic overdone look that so many women are afraid of.
Dr. Gangi has been a doctor for over 20 years. I think that is SO important to note as many doctors may offer to do injectables but you can trust that Dr. Gangi is at the top of her game in cosmetic medicine. Her all female staff and warm personality makes you feel comfortable and at ease from the moment you walk into her office and until the moment you leave.
Hopefully this post answered some of your questions about Xeomin vs Botox. I also want to add that Dr. Gangi does offer Botox in her office as well. I just wanted to be able to share about my experience with Xeomin and how it compared to Botox. The only difference between Xeomin vs Botox was the cost. My results looked identical otherwise.
My only regret with anti-wrinkle injections was waiting so long to start. Truly, I wish I had started years prior to prevent some deep lines from setting in even more. Like many women I thought I would have a plastic look and was just downright scared. Completely normal to feel that way.
I also thought good skincare would take care of the wrinkles. What it really came down to was being uneducated on the topic of injectables. Good skincare is crucial but at the end of the day there is only so much it can do. Good skincare paired with injectables is really when I began to love my face the most. And honestly, there’s nothing wrong with that. With a good doctor working alongside you though you can be at ease. Dr. Gangi will come up with a results driven regimen that entails medical grade skincare and injectables to help you look your best yet.
